Designing a couture collection takes incredible skill and big imagination and for a budding designer learning the couture ropes is a dream come true. Add sustainability into the mix and you’ve got the ideal work situation. Which is where luxe French fashion house Saint Laurent comes in.

According to WWD, Saint Laurent has partnered with two prestigious schools, the Insitut Français de la Mode and the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne on a program for up-and-coming designers to learn the couture trade with a focus on sustainability. The program is basically a six-month internship at Saint Laurent, with students working at the Saint Laurent office plus undertaking 25 days of coursework at the two schools. The talented Saint Laurent staff will mentor the interns over the six months with the students presenting a special project in March 2018 to the school faculty and Saint Laurent team.

The friend to the environment factor comes in through Saint Laurent working with the students and the schools to find and use sustainable fabrics as part of the project.

Applications for the program are currently open – head to the IFM or ECSCP websites for more details.
