Prada has opened its first store on the promenade of Saint Barthélemy, in the Caribbean. Covering 2,160 square feet on one floor, the door carries the brand’s women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear collections, as well as a selection of special products. The store concept is inspired by the architecture of 1950s South American mansions and reinterprets Prada’s classic heritage elements with an exotic touch. The checkered marble floor is teamed with wood and the original white-and-yellow-striped entrance ceiling is a modern take on a characteristic coffered ceiling. The space enjoys natural light that filters through large windows and wooden brise soleils.

The rooms display vintage-fabric wall coverings inspired by prints from Prada collections and reinterpreted in an architectural context. The settings are brightly colored, and the collections are presented on shelves made of natural wood or printed with graphic motifs. Rare design pieces, such as tubular-framed wicker armchairs from the 1950s, original seating by Giò Ponti and rattan armchairs designed by Franco Albini also contribute to the intimate and sophisticated atmosphere.
