What is musk? I hear you say, musk is the most commonly used raw material in fragrance and can be found in almost every perfume. Its earthy, animalistic, sensual qualities are brilliant at balancing other ingredients and also helps to fix them, allowing the resulting fragrance to last longer. Originally, musk was harvested from the male musk deer – a small tusked mammal native to the mountains of southern Asia, notably the Himalayas. Luckily now, musk used in fragrances is now usually a mixture of synthetic and plant-sourced materials, such as angelica and so now the term could be said to be more descriptive than strictly scientific.
Here are our top 3 Musk Scents for men:
1: Kiehls, Original Musk. Very old-school and restrained – the minimalist packaging makes it looks like something you could have picked up at a Fifties American barber’s. Starts off clean but dries down to something deeper and sexier and definitely muskier. Can be purchased online HERE
2: Frederic Malle, Musc Ravager. Not one for the office and definitely not for everyone. This is musk at its sexiest – more slept in sheets than clean linen. Can be purchased online HERE
3: Ermenegildo Zegna, Essenze Musk Gold. A blend of patchouli, coriander, musk and black pepper. The result is very deep and dark – starts off almost like the most wickedly delicious Christmas pudding you have ever eaten. Or for the more high-minded it has also been described as smelling like Mass. Can be purchased online HERE
