Carla Sozzani has accumulated a collection of about 2,000 prints and an eponymous gallery, the late legendary Italian art collector, retail magnate and magazine Editor is definitely a person that knows a thing or two about fashion imagery. Alphabetically curated by the Director of The Museum of Modern Art in Paris Fabrice Hergott, Between Art & Fashion shows 200 works by 89 artists and creates an overview of visual narratives that the fashion industry has produced over the past 60 years. Following exhibitions in Paris at Gallery Azzedine Alaïa and in Switzerland at the Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle, the Berlin show held at the Helmut Newton Foundation gets a fresh revamp with the addition of imagery focusing on Sozzani’s personal collaborations with photography legends including Paolo Roversi, Sarah Moon, and Helmut Newton. And while there’s no apparent theme in the exhibition, all imagery on display is visibly interconnected by one single thread – Sozzani’s ‘eye’.
Between Art & Fashion: Photographs from the Collection of Carla Sozzaniis on view at the Helmut Newton Foundation, Jebensstraße 2, 10623 Berlin, until November 18th, 2018.
