It’s been over 20 years since the tragic passing of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, but the incredible life and legacy of the Tejana singer continues to live on in music and pop culture. On Tuesday, Netflix released a short teaser, which opened up with Selena’s most iconic song lyric, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” and the official title of the show; Selena: The Series. “@SelenaLaLeyenda’s incredible life story is coming to Netflix as a scripted series! @selena_netflix was developed alongside, and will be executive produced by, The Quintanilla family,” the streaming service wrote.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Selena: The Series is described as a “coming of age story.” Moisés Zamora (American Crime) will write the script and executive produce the series, along with the Quintanilla family.
“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives, ” Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, told THR. “We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”
